The OYLA Advisory Council members are proud to announce the presentation of the 8th Annual Living Above the Influence Youth Leadership Conference.

This summit will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on the campus of Gateway Community College, located at 108 N 40th Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85034. This exciting event will bring together 250 males of color in grades 7th-12th from across the state of Arizona.

During the conference the young men will hear from civic, government, and business leaders along with participating in interactive workshops presented by national and local experts on the topics of:

In Session 1:

  • Sports & Nutrition – Deanna and Kurt Mangum II, CoupleyFit™
  • Cops & Ques Conversation and Careers – Phoenix PD panel of officers led by Sgt. “Memo” Arrubla & Bro. Andre Douglas
  • MCCCD – Maricopa Community College Admissions and Transitioning to 4yr school
  • Sports & Leadership – Russell Scott (Chandler HS Football Coach)
  • Entrepreneurship/Success in Business – Harold Winey
  • Financial Literacy – Geoffrey Nail

In Session 2:

  • AT Still University – STEM and Professional Careers in Medicine
  • Life Skills/Dress for Success –  Andrew Davis, Patrick Porter
  • HEALL – Bro. Clyde Miller
  • The Real on College Success Strategies – Professor Danny White
  • Career Readiness “The Art of a Great Interview”- Dwayne Ross
  • Careers in Sports Medicine and Natural Injury Recovery in Athletes – Dr. Greg Jones

The conference will also present the Charles Marshall III Essay Contest that awards scholarships to a winning Junior High and High School youth.

In addition, they will also be able to explore educational enrichment opportunities at the lunch Academic Resource Fair, that will also include a DJ from local radio station, special guest entertainment, and prizes all while enjoying lunch with peers and mentors.

2019 LATI Keynote Speaker

The keynote speaker for the 2019 LATI is Dr. Will Moreland. Dr. Will is a Military Veteran and President of Will Moreland International, LLC, a leading training and consulting company dedicated to helping individuals and organizations maximize their potential.

History of Living Above the Influence:

Founded in 2011, the LATI Youth Summit is now identified as a supportive event of the national My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Alliance Initiative. It has provided service and educational enrichments to over 1100 males of color from throughout the greater metro Phoenix area, man who have gone on to pursue higher education and lead positive and productive lives.

How much is the event?
Free for the first 150 youth registrations; $25.00 fee afterwards. Parent registrations: $15. Space is limited to 250 youth and 100 parents.

What is the dress code for the conference?
No hats, graphic tees, jeans with holes. No headphones. Cell phones are permitted but will be asked to be put away out of respect for presenters

Will you allow refunds? If yes, will you allow up to 7 days before the event or 1 day before the event?

YES, Refunds 48 hours prior to the event. Registration fee can fully refunded or transferred to a deserving youth as donation or to OYLA general programs. Must be expressed in writing 48 hours before event to oyla3000@gmail.com
