CONTEST GUIDELINES & OVERVIEW
ELIGIBILITY
Must be registered and attend the 2020 LATI conference
AWARDS
Two categories – Junior High (7th -8th High School (9th-12th)
$100 per winning essay
APPLICATION
- Interested youth must submit an essay of 250 words or less.
- Topic Question:
- “Research and identify one societal issue that effects minority youth and explain how would you can resolve it?”
- Typed on Word document – 12 Font size – Times New Roman
- Paper labeled in top right corner with
Name (First and Last)
School and grade
Email address
Parent email & contact phone number
All information received is considered confidential.
Scoring will be based on a rubric. Four is the highest score an essay can receive from one reader. Since the essay will be read by four readers, the maximum score an essay can receive is 16.
PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP
Student will be recognized at the 2020 LATI Conference. Winners will be required later to submit an OYLA Scholarship Requisition form provided and proof of 2019 Fall enrollment in an educational institution and OYLA will release payment.
